Data Protection Declaration
1. Controllers
The WoCCAP Coordinators (Christian König gen. Kersting, Yana Litovsky, Robert Böhm, Jürgen Huber, and Michael Kirchler) as joint controllers take data protection very seriously and treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the statutory regulations. This Data Protection Declaration aims to inform you as a researcher in accordance with Articles 12, 13 and 14 GDPR of the purpose, lawful basis and your rights regarding the processing of personal data by us.
2. Subjects of data processing
Scientific researchers who want to participate in the Wisdom of the Crowds - Crowd Analysis Project.
3. Purpose: Contribution of an algorithm to aggregate predictions as part of a study.
3.1. Purpose
The data is being processed for the purpose of obtaining algorithms designed to aggregate predictions. These algorithms will be applied to prediction data collected by the WoCCAP Coordinators to establish a ranking of the algorithms’ accuracy. The data will be used to perform a scientific study of the determinants of the accuracy and variability of algorithms used to aggregate predictions. The aim is to publish the results in a scientific journal and thus help improve the understanding of crowd prediction aggregation mechanisms. For these purposes, we process the data listed in the following section.
3.2. Types of data
- Name
- Email address
- Affiliation
- Position (Student, Professor, etc.)
- Whether a PhD or equivalent degree has been obtained
- Year of PhD or equivalent degree
- Main fields of research
- ORCiD
- Link to public academic webpage
- Link to public Google Scholar profile
- Self-reported expertise in Wisdom of the Crowd and related research fields
- Competing interest statements
3.3. Source of the personal data according to Article 14 GDPR
This data is either provided by the participating researchers or comes from publicly accessible sources (e.g., university websites, personal academic websites, Google Scholar, etc.).
3.4. Lawful basis for data processing
The basis for processing the data required is the public interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (e) GDPR in conjunction with § 7 para 1 subpara1 Federal Act concerning the Protection of personal Data (DSG), in identifying and contacting researchers for the purpose of research and for the advancement of scientific knowledge.
The basis for data processing following the initial contact, i.e., for the purpose of obtaining algorithm submissions and the purposes of the study is your consent.
4. Retention period
The data will be stored either until you withdraw consent or until the purpose of data’s use has been achieved. The purpose of the data’s use will be considered to have been achieved once all required algorithms have been obtained and the study has been published. At this point, the following information will be erased:
- Name
- Email address
- Affiliation
- ORCiD
- Link to public academic webpage
- Link to public Google Scholar profile
- Competing interest statements
At this point, the following information will be anonymized or grouped to render the identification of individual reviewers impossible:
- Position (Student, Professor, etc.)
- Whether a PhD or equivalent degree has been obtained
- Year of PhD or equivalent degree
- Main fields of research
- Data collected from public sources
Following this erasure and anonymization, no personal data in the sense of the GDPR remains. In case you withdraw consent, only your personal data absolutely necessary for the purpose of proving your consent or withdrawal will be stored for a period of 3 years from withdrawal.
5. Your rights
